The Fort Lauderdale Fire Museum team has repurposed Historic Fire Station 3 to display the interesting and exciting heritage of fire department service, and to teach young people fire safety.  We enthusiastically welcome new volunteers to help lead in our mission of Preserving Our Heritage and Teaching Our Youth!

Our volunteers participate in many rewarding and widely different areas of Museum operations.  Pick a few areas that interest you and complete the simple Application below.

Museum Docents Team:  Since we are a huge vacation destination, you will meet and greet both the general public and interesting fire service people from all over the world!

Fire Safety Education Presenters Team:  Our Presenters use exciting DVD’s, visual aids, puppets, etc. to teach several important fire safety topics.  Presenters may use their imagination to instill the vital safety topics.  The important learning is often cemented by the fun of meeting real on-duty firefighters, seeing their rigs, “holding” a live fire hose, etc.

Birthday Party and Hall Rental Hosts Team: (compensated) The excitement of kids who are thrilled by visiting our Museum, sliding our fire pole, meeting Sparky or holding a fire hose, while enjoying a party is contagious!  Hosts are compensated for promoting and hosting birthday parties.  Adding an exciting fire safety DVD gives parties a purpose, also.  Parents are responsible for set-up and clean-up, and we guide them in this.  Hall Rentals allow Team members to meet other fire service members when the facility is used for promotion, wedding, retirement, birthday, anniversary, memorial and other events.  Again, we guide users in their set-up and clean-up.

Buildings and Groundskeepers Team:  Historic Fire Station 3 is almost 100 years old, and there is often a list of maintenance tasks that need attention.  An occasional team meeting and work session may include cleaning, prep and paint, landscape upgrades and other buildings and grounds upkeep.  Ideal for people who enjoy working with their hands and a team!

Historic Apparatus Operation and Maintenance Team:  Our historic fire engines need regular maintenance and upgrades.  We also need to have a few people learn to drive them.  A perfect program for “classic car people” to meet others, and get hands-on maintenance and operating skills.

Special Events Team:  9-11, St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest, Fire Training Expo week, holiday time, Retiree’s Reunions, late Firefighter’s Memorial Services and other events are often important and rewarding events to help present.

Fire Museum service offers unexpected benefits.  Fire department leaders are frequently at the Museum, and volunteers enjoy the opportunity to meet and get to know them.  Museum service can also be a positive resume item.  Your family and friends will enjoy visiting “your” Fire Museum and enjoy the exhibits.

We know how vital it is for the Museum to welcome new volunteers into our operations so that fire service history, camaraderie and fire safety education thrives and grows for the future.  Please complete the attached form and join the team!
